Harman P38 Auger stopped working

Hi Everyone,

As the title states, my auger stopped working, my son said it was making a weird noise so he turned it off. I can hear the auger motor trying/working but no go, I'm just about to take the auger out to see if there are fines or something jamming it up. Any other suggestions?

That's what I'd do. No telling what got in there & if you try to run it, you may cause more damage.
Once you get it out, take a look at the edges of the flights & bench any burrs smooth with a mill file...
Then inspect the auger chute for any damage & repair that as well...

close, I just found a nail in the auger tube

Now I'm flipping it full on test (I think), and the fan comes on but the auger still isn't moving. I wonder if that burn't out the auger motor.

Lets see how much milage we can get out that Last nail in the coffin. It's fate was hammered home. Someone just found a screw in their Countryside. Maybe have to mount a good magnet in the stoves like farmers have to shove one down into a cow to collect hardware.

Did you remove the auger? If not, disconnect the motor & see if you can turn it by hand...

I did remove the auger and cleaned it out. I can turn it by hand, when I put it together and run it in test mode it doesn't turn. I wonder if that nail jammed it enough to strip the gears in the motor...I'm guessing that's what happened.

To remove doubt about motor have you tried to hook it direct to power with a cord out of stove?

No, I haven't tried that. not sure how to do that but I'll take a look in the morning. thanks

I just had the same type of problem. In my particular case I sometimes also had a hard time getting my pp38 to enter "test" mode, not sure is that applies to your stove. I found that my auger stopped feeding because the vacuum sensor relay was not properly closing the contacts and therefore not applying power to the auger motor.
If you follow the power lines from the auger ac motor one should lead to a micro-switch that is apart of the vacuum safety sensor assy.
I put a simple ohm meter across the micro-swtich terminals (dissconnect the existing lines) and found that when I cycled on the power the resistance was very high, somewhere in the kilo ohms range.
I pulled out the sensor and manually actuated the sensor (by blow and sucking gently on the nipple...) and then I could distinctly hear the contacts closing (clicking), also the resistance when under vacuum dropped to ~30 ohms. I also stuck a pipe cleaner down the rubber input tube for good measure.
So from what I could gather the sensor should be open when there is no vacuum, disconnecting power to the auger, and closed when the blower fans are running, creating a small amount of vacuum

fixed, the motor was toasted. Replaced it from Earth Sense for 85.00.
