Uhg! I just looked at the on line install manual for the fire view,,,,,,,,, my prefab hearth is 2 inches too small for the minimum clearances. They actually want 60 inches on the width. Looks like I'll be getting into a hearth build for a bigger pad. Here I thought I could just swap stoves being a smaller stove is going back in.

Charly- The recommended hearth specs are 48" deep x 60" wide. The minimum size is 44"d x 50"w, but that means the stove would be offset to one side to accommodate the 16" on the door side & 8" on the other side. IMHO bigger is better for protection and aesthetics.

That's what I'm going to do, go bigger, match the brick with on the back wall which will bring me to 67 inches wide. Can you over lap smaller sheets of sheet metal? On the plywood base, 3/4 inch? Forgot to buy a heat shield for the back of the Fire View,,,whoops

Nice! Do you think you could just throw a steak on top of that cook plate or would it make too much of a mess? I'm getting closer to wanting a new stove.

Todd, that's a good question. I believe it has a deep enough lip all around, but I'm sure some spatter might get on the paint . Just cook it low and slow. They are very clever people with great minds. They're are so darn nice. Forgot to pick up a heat shield for the back of my Fire View, I called yesterday and it will be here today. Wow , just great people and service. And mike in shipping, wow he has his act together big time! Took the time to show me about maintaining my by pass adjustment on my new stove. They just keep blowing me away how nice they are! How could you want to own anything else?

You never know Todd. That plate would be mighty hot to lift up even with gloves. On a top exit stove pipe set up,,,,I never looked to see if the stones leaning back will touch the stove pipe. You would just have to remove the stone, no big deal.

Charly, congratulations on the new stove. Glad you got to visit Woodstock. Maybe you'll consider going to the Open House this fall? Looks like there are plenty of folks from hearth.com wanting to go and we also plan on it. Will we see you there?

I'm looking forward to using it. Yes I'll be at the open house, be a day trip for me and the wife, as I have chickens that have to be locked up at night and also a diabetic dog that needs a shot twice a day, but I'll drop in for a while for sure. That whole place speaks of good karma . Be nice to meet some hearth people as well.
