Hearthstone heritage + outside air kit question

Hi All!

Well, DH and I have gone around and around and finally landed with the decision and purchase of a hearthstone heritage stove for our home. We are preparing for delivery of the stove next week, and we will be installing the stove ourselves. We have an existing SS triple wall stovepipe, and 8" pipe down to where we'll hook it up to the stove.

At this point, we would like very much to take the existing outside air tubing (which is already in the floor from the previous heatilator fireplace, it's located at the very front of where the heatilator was), and I understand that the outside air kit hooks up somewhere on the underneath or rear of the hearthstone, to some tubing then to the outside air pipe.

The problem is this. Nowhere in Hearthstone's Heritage installation and owner's manual does it have a picture of this kit, or a picture of the back or bottom of the stove where this would hook up. There is no diagram showing the proper placement of this air input size or location in relation to the stove.

Now, I'd really, really like to move this tubing to it's location, then get the concrete backerboard and lay the hearthstone tile and get this spot all ready to receive the stove so that we can have it put in place, instead of this stove sitting in the middle of our living room while we figure out where this tube needs to come up and out of the hearth and then build thehearth and then break my back trying to help my husband heft this thing into place.

Does anyone know where there is a diagram for this? I know that one person here had pictures of his installation, but they were SO DARK that we couldn't decipher what was was in there.

I called Hearthstone, but they do not have a human being answering the phone, and are only geared to refer people to the website, or perhaps talk to dealers. Their website has no diagrams, etc.

Can anyone help me with this? I hate to get this stove and have it sit around for God only knows how long while we could be doing this preparation this week !

You might encounter draft issues running your Heritage exhaust into an 8" pipe. It is designed for 6".

You must be poking fun at my pictures which were indeed dark, Ha!. They were dark but the best I could do. Perhaps you could lighten them with some software?

The OAK nipple sticks out directly rearward horizontally on this stove. This is a good thing since you now have some flexibility. When looking at the front window- the OAK nipple exits the stove body at the left rear side about an inch from the floor to bottom of nipple.,The nipple is located very near the rear left leg just inside (towards stove center) of it.

I built my hearth with the good fortune of having the stove onsite to measure it precisely. 3" flex duct slides perfectly onto the outside of the nipple and is secured with a simple hose clamp. I appreciated it's good flexibility.

Here's a lighter picture. Note that my stove is perfectly centered on the hearth left to right and that each tile is 12" with 1/4" grout lines.

Hi Highbeam, thanks for the reply and the PM. This pic is the best for showing the location of the air input. I greatly appreciate you putting this up so that I could show this to the resident engineer.... Now to figure out what we'll do for the hearth. We will not be placing the stove against a wall, but in between the kitchen and the living room, where the space hog heatilator fireplace used to be. I'm thinking honed slate. I like natural black slate best, but want to skip the tippy tippy thing.

I'd like to put a flat, flush with the rest of the flooring hearth..... I wonder how to accomplish that..... in the meantime, here's what is burning until the heritage gets here... it's actually very cute...

Ok Here is the little cutie that we are burning now. I like it fine except for the continual, fast cycling fry/freeze cycle. It's not great to have to feed the fire every hour. I think that the stove was originally a little coal stove.... it's extremely cute however.
