I asked for help last December when I had a new Hearthstone Heritage installed. I was having trouble getting a fire started and being able to close the door without the fire going out, often having to wait up to 45 minutes before I could close the door. Thank you all for your support.
My 18 foot tall chimney was lined with "bricks" and the area was 6X12 (I think). I finally decided that pushing that big slug of air out before the stove really got going was the problem and I needed to have a 6 inch double wall steel flue installed. Now the fire catches easily and I can close the door within ten minutes. The stove works perfectly with no glitches. I am very happy about that.
Just one problem. They brought some sort of machine with metal balls that rotated to knock out all the bricks, and in doing so knocked apart my 30 year old chimney above the roof. The repair for that will cost me $5000. Ouch. But the heat is lovely, even for a tiny fire to knock off the chill. And I've got my lovely soapstone stove to look at.
