Heat shield for under Cavalier wood stove?

I've got an old Sears Robuck & co Cavalier stove that, after an overhaul, runs beautifully. So well in fact, that I'm having new concerns about the floor under this ol girl. Shes big, so I'd rather not use slate. Any ideas would be very helpful.

masonry units, each not less than 4 in. (102 mm) in thickness.
(2) The masonry units shall be laid with ends unsealed and joints
matched in such a way as to provide a free circulation of air through the core
spaces of the masonry.
(3) The top surface of the masonry shall be covered with a steel plate not
less than 3/16 in. (4.8 mm) in thickness.
(4) The floor protection shall extend not less than 18 in. (457 mm) beyond
