I have an old Heatilator 3620 fireplace and I was wondering if I could use a 90 degree elbow to go straight out the wall and then up the outside of my house instead of the 45 degree elbow that the manual suggests?

Is this a an open face wood fireplace? Gas? Stove?

Basically if the manual shows approved venting parts, whatever it shows is what you can use, nothing else.
