heatnglo fireplace - wall switch not working.

Hello,
I have heat n glo SL-750TR-C.
I tried to turn it on today, preparing for the winter weather.

I saw two thick wires ( Red & Brown), tied together with a Tag 'For use with Remote or Wall Switch Only', they have male -female adapters on them. I don't know if they are to stick within each other, or they stay loose\open.

Here are my steps:

Turn knob from OFF to Pilot. Pressed Red button for few seconds. Pilot is lit. I let red button go back to normal position.
Next, I turn knob to ON, fireplace turned ON. ( It should not turn ON at this point, right ? ) As I remember it should stay to pilot lit state, when knob goes from Pilot to ON
After that, I flipped one switch next to Red Pilot to ON.

I turned wall switch from Off to On, and then from On to Off. Nothing happened.

Wall switch is not doing anything.

Am I doing something wrong ?

I am attaching photo of control valve and wires. Second pic is of that red & brown wires with tag tied.

Question : Should both Red & Brown wires stay loose or plugged into each other ?

Please advice how to troubleshoot it.

That is odd. By connecting those two wires together, one is bypassing the fireplace switch and making the unit always on, regardless of the on-unit switch setting.

For sure the remote wall switch is not controlling this. Are you sure that switch is for the fireplace?

Thanks a bunch! Your reply made me think and I figured out what I was doing wrong.

First mistake I made, I connected red & brown wires. As you said, that bypassed fireplace switch.

Second mistake, I was turning ON unit-switch and then trying wall switch. I forget that both of them are essentially the same. My brain fade.
You saved me a call to technician. Thanks!
