Help needed identifying this wood.

Hey guys, I'm new here and was needing some help identifying this wood. I think and hope its maple. I've got a opportunity to cut up some trees on a property. This was a small peace off of a couple trees I cut up today. I'm going to be using for fire wood.

Hard for me to be definitive. The bark is washed out from too much light to really see it. Split one and give us another pic of the bark and inside.

Yes, give better pics, there could be some beech there but too hard to tell from what your showing...

2 yrs in the stack...as good as Red Oak in output.

Out of all the different firewood species hard maple, well seasoned is the best to burn by itself. IMO of course.

If you got yourself some sugar maple there, I'd say you gotta a good nose. I would love to see some leaves if you could find any. If you are in the Carolinas you must still have leaves on the trees down there.
I would like to see what you have, if you could. I have some sugar in my wood stack for this year but I don't generally cut sugars, it was a mistake...or an accident.
Its tricky to separate them from the Reds for me.

You're in the southern edge of sugar maples range, Im curious what the leaf shapes look like as well.

Apple, from this photo I note two things that help me; The brown color of the inner bark layer....usually more of a red hue to it in the soft maples, and the color of the heartwood....also more of a brown color to it vs. more of a grey/black for soft maples.

Here is another picture I took yesterday. The land will be cleared so I have been given access to cut whatever for a week or 2. So in the evenings and on weekends. The guy has hired a logging crew to come in so I'm getting all I can get. I ended up getting soaked last night.

Yes. I'm glad to have this site too. I've cut wood with my dad a lot when i was little. Last year. I just starting burning wood again. I've always had got lucky and been able to cut red oak and allot of sweet gum and popular. NO MORE SWWET GUM AND POPULAR IF I CAN HELP IT. I've been reaching Ash all week. I've heard Ash you pretty much burn green. I'm taking a break as you can tell and sipping on a Gatorade. Thanks again for the help. I hope i don't sound redundant in the future. Sometimes people on sites want to tell you to do a search... too much BS with that sometimes. I can't say enough. Thanks for the warm welcome and help. Tree is down and ready to cut up.

I've heard Ash you pretty much burn green.

I believe that ash is the best wood to burn green if you HAVE to burn something green. That said, you'll get a lot more heat out of it and burn cleaner if it's dry.
