I am designing an outdoor fireplace for my pool deck. I plan to build a gas accent fireplace, a smaller version of this: (broken link removed to https://www.woodlanddirect.com/N49900943-450px)
To keep costs down, I am planning to use a metal frame and wrap in concrete board then finish with tile.
I am currently trying to figure out the most affordable material to line the "fire area". Fire bricks are a little pricey. I have read that maybe hardy board is heat resistant. I do not plan to enclose the front of this in glass like the image I shared. Thus, the heat won't build up as much. Can anyone offer some ideas on how to build something that can withstand the heat and not strain my budget?
Thanks!
Craig
