Help with Super Split elec motor

Hoping I can get some help with choosing an electric motor for a used Super Split I bought with a gas motor on it. I'd like to convert it to electric 1.5 hp. My BIL has a salvage yard and I am thinking I will have access to some used electric motors. Are there any specific things I need to look for besides the hp? Thanks for any help you can offer.

You will also want to consider RPM's, and ensure that the pulley sizes are appropriate for the motor speed. I'd just call or email Super Split and ask them about their motor specs and pulley diameters.

They are a standard 1340 RPM dust rated motor from Marathon Electric IIRC. I bought the Honda engine with it and hated listening to it so went electric in 220 VAC so nobody can ask to borrow it.

You will also need the electric motor mounting plate, a new motor pulley and a pair of belts. I wired mine with 25 feet of 12-3 SO cord then made a 75 foot extension cord if I'm splitting near the wood shed.

That's what I did and they provided me enough info to locate a motor that will work.

It seems it was in the $1500 to $1700 range. Sorry, the old memory you know.

Sorry I do not have pictures. I'm very happy with my conversion and it had very little impact on the operation of the SS. When it was in gas configuration I never ran it on full speed anyway.

I have no idea what a used one is worth because I couldn't find any. It was also my understanding that when goes on sale it gets scoffed up really quick.

In my area couple have shown up on Craigslist for around $1000, over the last few years. At that price I imagine the sellers were either in a hurry or didn't know what they had (liquidating an estate, etc).

Yeah, but I have no need for a full-size splitter, and no place to keep one. I only burn about 2 cords/year, so I make do with a Fiskars axe, an electric splitter and a big saw for occasional noodling.
