Since I bake a lot of bread I was trolling around looking at some new (to me) sites and stumbled on this - a backyard pellet fired pizza oven...a bit pricey at $175 for a single pizza size and $300 for a double...but interesting nonetheless.

Even though I am making pizza dough right now, I am not likely to run out and buy one (Madame DeFarge would flip if I get another toy) but I thought it worth sharing.

I think I have seen these before - a year ago?

For making bread, I just use my electric bread maker ;lol When it comes to pizza, the dough function and conventional oven. It would be nice to keep the heat outside the house in the summer though ...

I like to make my own pizza too, but it's too hot in the summer to fire up the oven. That looks nice just set it up outside and you can use the vegetables from the garden.
 
I once tried to get Burger King to switch to wood pellets for their grills. They claim to be flame broiled but they probably use a gas flame. I never heard back from them.
 
Flame grilled all right, does a grease fire count? Boiler engineer friend was setting up boilers to use rendered chicken grease as a fuel source.

It's a lot easier to get a flat pizza sized stone andput it in a bbq grill, turn it on and wait 30-45 minutes for the stone get get to temp. This item might be of use to someone with no bbq grill but I can't really see the practicality/cost effectiveness. (I make pizza just about every other week).

I cook pizza in the BBG as well. We use a Pamper Chef pizza pan made for use in grills. My daughter sells Pamper Chef products and did a demo/party pizza theme here one night. I tried the pizza and suggested to granny ( what we all affectionately call my wife) to buy one. She's all game cause if I'm cooking she isn't and she doesn't use the grill !!
 
We have a Traeger pellet grill that is awesome. I really don't like the taste of food grilled on propane anyway. Not the propane itself, because it's odorless but the odorant added to it (methyl mercapitan I think), I can taste that. So, I'm a charcoal or pellet grill person. I'm sure I can bake with the Traeger, it gets plenty hot.

I just bought cheap terra cotta tile to use on the grill. Was less than $5 for 4, 12inch pieces

We have one of the mid sized Weber portable grills ( the ones with the cream colored tops you see in the stores). That is by far the best gas grill I've ever owned and I've owned several. I gave away our big grill after using this thing. Maybe it's just me but I can't taste anything propane about it. It has a heavy cast grilling grate inside, very even cooking. After using ours the stepson bought the large one and our daughter bought the same one we have. We all have them on stands. Anyway, that's what I cook the pizza in and if it croaks I'd buy another one in a heart beat.

I saw the Mini pellet grills at Cabelas. Not sure it would fit a decent sized pizza in it.
 
The ones at Cabelas...are a bit overpriced like everything there....lol Better prices online. We have the larger one (than Cabelas). Got ours on Amazon. I'm 2 miles from a Cabelas and never go there....

Nice.... and expensive. There is a pizza place in the next town that has one, it's coal fired btw. Makes good pizza and I bet they are crowded tonight... keeping warm.
 
If you want the best pizza buy a big green egg,the best grill on the market,I have a Phoenix grill that I'm trying to get rid of since buying my egg sorry for getting away from the pellet topic.

Do you use any pellets for smoke flavoring in your Egg?:) There, that makes it pellet related.
 
No Bioburner just lump charcoal and wood chunks or chips depending on how much smoke flavor I want.I paid 1300.00 dollars for my Phoenix gas grill and about the same for my egg and hands down the best (cooker) you can ever buy,made a bunch of deer loins two weeks ago marinated in a brown sugar cure (brown sugar and salt)then injected them with honey(honey has to be heated so you can inject)cooked at 180°F for about an hour and a half and kept warm sitting in front of my pellet stove looking out the window at my egg.
 
Asking a question though Bioburner how much do you think a 2008 pc45 would be worth?A guy in my nick of the woods has one for 800.00 and another guy has one for 1500.00 and both are still for sale.

I do pizza on my Weber Genesis every so often (on stone or just on the grill). I'd like to build a wood fired one at some point. But I don't see the big advantage of pellet there. I use pellets just to make the daily chore of heating easier. But doing pizza is a fun process and I don't do it every day. I really don't need a minor shortcut in the process. I think I'd actually have more fun with a wood fired pizza oven. Though it would probably cost way more than a few hundred bucks.
 
Metalsmith friend of mine went to seminar on how to build mortarless ovens and I got copies of several of the designs and not at all hard and probably could be done for $100 or less.
Mate a pellet fired rocket stove to it and would practical.
 
I know you will all run out and make this NO-COST pizza oven AND get a laugh at the same time!

I think we need to send this over to the pizza forum now,pizza no matter what always taste great when its wood fired no matter what but I'm all ears(eyes) to what any seasonings in the crust you may use .
