homemade heatshield question

here's one for you folks:

I am making a heat shield for my ceiling -- and I need some insulators ... I have not found much available locally -- and I'm trying to figure out what to use.... I could buy some of those home saver ceramic tubes -- but it seems a waste to buy 25 of them when I only need eight or 10....

Any inexpensive sources of these ceramic tubes?? or some other high quality 1 inch or longer ceramic insulators that I can use?? I plan to just use the tube type so I can just put a anchor bolt or a screw into the insulator on the ceiling heat shield, and also I need to attach one of those home saver 3 ft long wall shields...

I could order something off the Internet -- but I'm not sure if I'll get it in time for my stove installation project -- but you get a locally would be better.

By the 25 and sell the rest of the 15 on Craigslist. How much are 25 of them? Ceramic spacers are the proper thing to use as far as I know.

I generally use copper pipe cut to length, but I don't think a pack of ceramic spacers is expensive enough to worry about setting 15 of them aside? Maybe you'll move and have to put up another wall protector some day.

Seems like short lengths of metal pipe would be the way to go. Cutting your own from a length of stock would be the cheapest way, buying a bag of bulk fittings would be a little faster. Depending on how much space you need, a couple flat washers stacked together might also be a cheap/easy option.

Too bad you seem in a hurry - I have boxes of knob-and-tube insulators for the cost of shipping - I'd send you what you want -seems to me the small part of the knob would be ideal.

I used straight copper pipe fittings from HD. I need two clearances and by coincidence, they had them in 1" and 1 5/8" length. They were about $0.60 ea. I think the purpose they are manufactured for is soldering two pieces of copper plumbing of the same outside diameter together.
