Question:

We are moving to a house that was built in the sixties. How can I tell if the fireplace was built for gas logs or built to burn wood?

Answer:

1. You could have a chimney sweep or other professional check it out.
2. If it's a masonry fireplace with a flue liner (orange terra-cotta center liner), then it's wood burning.

Most all gas fireplaces would be made of metal and of newer vintage.
