I partial loaded this afternoon, closed the damper and watched the cat temps start to rise. After having the cat take off in the past I turned it down after it passed 1000. How high will it go? I know I've seen 1600. Years back I ran this stove with no temp readings except for STT, wonder how high it went back then? Old cats never looked damaged at all. I've seen a good red glow and it appears some of the cast iron glows. Cast melts at 2200 and I don't have any internal damage.

Over 1600ºF degrades the coating.
