I'm having trouble fitting the cleanout tee in. How important is it? How will I clean it if I skip the tee?

It's not important as far as being absolutely necessary.....you don't have to have one, but it DOES make cleaning the pipe a whole lot easier. Only way to clean w/o one is to take the pipe apart, or go up to the top of the pipe and clean from there.

maybe some pics of your install, or at least a good desription would help us understand why you're having trouble.

What stove? What size pipe? Freestanding or insert? What type of pipe layout? Etc, etc.
