I have always wondered this....I have never used a log splitter and I split all my wood by hand with my wedges and maul..(6-8 cords per year) but how many cords could someone split in a day with a log splitter (if more than one)?

Was talking to a friend the other day, him and several others sell firewood part time....5 of them cut/split 11 cords in one day.
Depends on the log splitter that you have . If you buy a log splitter with a 4 way wedge then one stroke quarters a log. Compair this to a regular log splitter ,when it takes 1 stroke to half the log,1 stoke to half the half & one more stroke to half the other half.
Its easy to see that a 4 way wedge does the work 66.6% faster. One stoke does the work of 3 strokes. Compairing the price of the splitters, a 4 way ends up costing about 1000.oo more
as the 4 way conversion wedge kit only fits a few certain makes & models of the more expensive & more powerful log splitters at www.northerntools.com

Yesterday, a neighbor and I cut, split, and stacked about 2 cords in 6 hours. We would have gotten more done if we had help stacking.
We were taking our time because we were both hurting like hell (the day before was dedicated to bucking, loading, and transporting all the logs).
I prefer smaller splits of around 3", so I'm sure that affected the progress -- most of the rounds got split into 6, sometimes 8.
This was done using 1 chainsaw and 1 electric splitter.
If we had had more help and worked a longer day, we probably would have processed 4 cords.

A lot depends on the condition of your back. I split and pile directly into my tractor bucket , then pile on pallets so it takes longer. The first day is not bad but by the second day the old back kicks in and pain slows me down a little. And I'm in decent shape but I only split one week-end a year, 6 cords, when I borrow my neighbor's splitter. This year I'm making my own machine and then I can split a little at a time. Much, much easier on the old body.
On Saturday, I drug the logs to cutting area, cut, split and stacked 1 full cord in about 3 hrs work. That is a pretty good average for me (and only me, no helpers). I already have next years cut and split, so I am in no hurry, but I have about 15 cords sitting in log form just taunting me to be prepared for stove chow.
So to break it down, basically I can produce 1 cord (cut, split, stacked) in 3 to 4 hours, beer brakes included. (in moderation of course). Also, to be fair, I have assistance from a loader tractor and log splitter w/log lifter.

the Timberwolf that I run you need to have 2 guys working it is that fast. 4 way or 6 way wedge, auto return and log lift.it is fast
If both processors are performing at their peak and good quality wood, 32+ cord in an 8 hour day.
Back 25 years ago we use to rent a splitter for the weekend and with 3 of us working we could do 25+face cord.
Now that we have a splitter I just run a tank full of gas a day...then do the same the next day. Only time I'll split all day...or half a day is if it's raining and there's nothing else to do.
Any day now I'll be hauling up and staging logs cut down last year to process for next year. I just plug away at it a little bit each day...it gets done quicker than ya think.

About 2 hours to put 5 cords of logs into rounds with a Poulan.
About 14 hours to turn rounds into splits with powered unicorn splitter.
I haven't stacked yet so I don't know the rest but the above work was done by myself in twisted doug fir and with no particular rush. Yard beer breaks included.
