Question for BK burners. How much soot/creosote are you getting in your chimney? After noting some members comments on chimney buildup over the burn season I’m thinking I’m producing more buildup than most.

11 weeks since the last sweep, about 1.3 cords of 15% MC Jack Pine burnt, stove running hard enough that the door glass was remained fairly clean, estimated about 50% -60% open on the air intake, stove ran 24/7. Chimney 9’ Class A with 5.5’ of double walled stove pipe. The 9’ of Class A chimney is cold. Stove is a Princess 32, manufactured 2025.

I collected 4 cups of what I’m calling soot with a little bit of small flake creosote. I’m calling the very fine, like talcum powder fine, dark brown dust soot. The shiny black flakes I’m calling creosote. MY definitions could be wrong, maybe the talcum powdery stuff is also creosote?

I have pictures that I didn’t post but could if it would help identifying soot vs creosote.

Is 4 cups excessive compared to other BK members?

Dull powder is fine.
4 cups is not bad. If it's 4 cups all shiny, I'd be worried about something not working well

These things are clean burning but because of the very high efficiency the flue temps aren't that high and volume of flue gasses is way low so things move slowly and things settle out in the chimney. Even though you set the thermostat at 50%, the throttle blade shut down mostly once the stove has reached that set point. This is unlike other stoves, especially noncats, that just continue to dump air through the firebox.

4 cups of dark brown stuff from three months of pine. Sounds pretty okay.
