How much wood so far? 2014

I just finished my first, and dipped into my second cord today. Curious about others on here, especially heavy users.

It pains me to see the stacks disappearing so quickly.

Estimating 5-6 cords at least this year. I was really hoping the 6th cord would be surplus to be burned next year, but it's looking we'll bun through it all.

So we are at 1 cord (roughly) used from late October through first week of December. Just a bit more than I'd hoped for.

I only burned 6 or 7 stove loads. My stove is in my basement and I'm planning on moving it to the first floor. So I'm letting my wood get more ripened for next year when it will benefit more. Just using my geothermal for now.

See, for me the above would read, "Just using my enormous, inefficient 1940's oil furnace to heat my uninsulated old farmhouse". That's why I've already used a cord though I live in Southern New Jersey.

That one cord you burned is more valuable at your place then mine.
 
I just started burning...my Fireview was down for a complete rebuild and I did an insulated chimney liner too so....late start this year. Should have plenty left over this spring.
 
I would roughly say 2 cords. I don't have a good way to measure as I kept adding to my close outside pile and then using it or using dry from the shed on rainy days. It has been cold here. I say bring the cold on; I have almost 30 cords stacked and still adding (not including the 12 cords in the shed and next to the stove for this year). Over half of it is dry now.

I have an outdoor furnace heating a 2 level 1500 sf ranch plus 1200 sf garage and DHW. I actually turned the propane valves off for the season unless I am away and need backup. On occasion I light up the wood stove in the basement which has been a lot lately.

Lit our first fire Nov 7. Burned oil until then because I'm a little short on wood for this year. Probably only 1/4 cord to this point and only about 3.5 cords to get us through until spring.
 
Interesting to hear usage rates from all over the spectrum. If I had 30 cords stacked, I'd be pleased with my usage rate, too, lindnova. As is, I'm slightly behind my optimistically formulated estimates, so all is not lost. I still hate seeing the stacks disappear though (about a half cord per pallet for me).

I've got one of those... an Ideal Redi-Flash #1 in my cellar... but all it's lines are cut... no water or power to it. it is just too damned heavy to move.

I'm probably a little more than a cord in heating with wood exclusively.
 
I'm exactly where you are in usage. At least one cord so far and I'm disappointed with my rate of consumption. I went thru 6 cords last winter. I burn 24/7 until the stove cant keep up at all then turn fuel oil on.
I try to make it till Christmas before flicking the furnace switch.
Im heating 3400' and the stove runs its heart out.

You're in a colder climate and with a larger house, too. I have about 2100 sq. ft to heat, though it does have 9+ foot ceilings throughout, and like I said, no insulation, a problem that I need to remedy as much as I can on a limited budget. Oh yeah, our furnace has been on, though I'd guess we've used only about 1/8-1/4 of a tank (need to get back down in the basement to check for sure).

Don't get me wrong the thing puts out serious heat--but it's a thirsty beast. Hence our emergency woodstove install last winter (our first in the house)
 
I'm right around the 1 cord mark, maybe a little under. Heating a 2,000 sq ft house solely with the Oslo. The consumption doesn't bother me much anymore as I had about 13 cord split & stacked this spring. already have nearly 2 cord of oak split in a pile waiting to replace what I've burned. I try to gather everything I can and split before heavy winter sets in. Then I can just stack in spring and be done. It sounds good on paper but in reality I just ended up helping my friends get firewood all summer because they don't have the same mindset as me.

My house was built in 1865... and the insulation that is in it... I installed.... and I'm not done.

When the redi-flash boiler was installed as a coal unit... then the grates and shakers got pulled and it was converted to #2 oil. My dad said it would go through 200 gallons a week!!!!!

Needless to say, the boiler is disconnected, and all of the radiators have been scrapped.

My grandfather shut that thing down more than 30 years ago, and put in an ashley. It did well... A chimney fire in the masonry chimney saw the ashley pulled and monitors put in. When I moved in... we starved and froze through a winter of $4.30+/gal kerosene. Then I finally scraped together enough $$ to put in a new class A chimney... and the monitors were yanked and the wood stove went in. This would be my second winter of 100% wood heat. I put up about 4 cord last year and ran out.

This year I have 9.... lol, not gonna run out.

Yeah that's about when our house was built (1850-1890 range). Previous owners put in an oil furnace with forced air, in the 40s or so. 115,000 BTUs I think.

I can't imagine living in ME in an uninsulated house. 9 cords--Nice work.
 
Only about 2/3 cord so far heating 2600q. ft. House built in 1998 so it's well insulated and I have a cat stove, insert actually. And, while it as been unseasonably cold, it's not as cold as the great frozen northeast and upper Midwest.

We've used about a face cord so far.

Very happy with our new Lopi Endeavor so far. Can get our upstairs bedrooms to a comfortable 70 at night.

Our electric bill went down in November compared to October.

And we've used about 650 less Kw hours (electric heat) than last November. Booyah

Coming up on 2/3 cord for me. A lot of it has been Pine but I had not expected to have used this much this soon.
 
5/6's of a cord most shoulder season wood. Started burning on 11/13.
 
Started burning occasionally in October and have pretty much gone through a cord.
 
About 1/2cord of mostly pine, soft maple and uglies. Some oak and BL during a real cold snap.

pshaw..... If I get my 'ol smoke dragon up to a stack temp of 500... it's about 90 in the house. we're fine
