For those that use a bench grinder to sharpen their saws like the one at harbor freight. How often do you replace the grinding wheel. Also, how do you know when it is time to replace it?
 
Diameter is not as big of a deal as dressing it properly. I haven't wore one out yet, but I wouldn't be afraid of wearing off 1/3 before I looked into a replacement.
 
You will reach a point where the diameter of the wheel will be too small to grind the chains properly. The motor assembly will impact on the cutter locator assembly preventing lowering of the wheel to the proper depth.
