How to cut a tree off a roof???

Hi, everyone,

a lady contacted me about my craigslist wood wanted add. she has a tree about 40 feet long sitting on an edition to her house. it is nothing fancy just a 2x4 roof for a laundry room. she has already said she wanted to re-due the roof. but what i need to know is how one goes about a thing like this. almost all the weight is on the roof. theirs only 1 decent sized branch with any wait on it at all stuck in the ground.

Also how much wood did you guys burn this winter and how much did you heat, i was somewheres around 5 or 6 cords.

can you get a picture of it? it's not easy to figure it out without seeing what the situation reall is.

I would tell her you will haul the wood away after a tree service removes it. It sound like a can of worm to me.

If you're careful demolishing the house, the tree will be in the best condtion to cut into firewood.

I've used a safety harness and a rapelling rope.
Blocks and wedges just like it was on the ground.
Not so sure I would do it again. (Hurricane Bob)
Call a tree service for a quote to come with a pick bucket and put it on the ground.

Tough situation to comment on without seeing it in person, or at least some pics. I s'pose when I was 19 or 20 and pretty much knew everything, I might have jumped in and given it a try. Now approaching 60, I guess I'm dumber than I used to be...it just sounds scary and dangerous to try it any way but with a crane to get the tree safely to its lowest level of potential energy before starting to work on it. Most trees hanging 'over' a structure are a 'block and tackle' job...it requires a knowledge of rigging. The average joe that is familiar with a chain saw should not attempt this.

First of all this is a woman you're dealin with and it's NOT you're wife. This should tell you how to handle this situation.

You could be buyin' her a new house when you're done scratchin' the shingles!

i figured id get this kind oif response after i realized i let out one major detail....we do have a waivor waiving us of damage done, but obviously we would not like to have to use it. so we dont have to worry about getting screwed like a peice of wood with a lawsuit...

so anyways, my thoughts after looking at it again are...attempt to lift majority of weight off the house by lifting as close to the edge of the house as possible with a jack and some sort of 4x4 supoort system holding the trunk up. then limb the tree back until nothing but trunk is left over the house. then cut trunk back until point of jack is encountered. im not sure wat to do here tho because if i cut the trunk it will fall right through the wall of the house; do i leave the jack in place and cut back 6 feet so i pivot without hitting the house or what.
