Hi All,

I intend on installing a 6" chimney liner in my 7"x7" masonry chimney. The chimney is 18' tall and has a clay tile liner. From what I've read, it seems that an insulating wrap is a nonstarter, so I'm left with either a loose fill such as perlite or an insulation mix. However, I can't figure out how one would adequately block the chimney underneath the thimble and around the tee to prevent the insulation from going straight to the bottom and plugging up the clean-out door. Any suggestions?

Well no matter what you do with a 6" liner you cannot fit enough insulation inside those old 7x7 liners to meet the insulation requirements of the liner system. That is why we always break out the old liner s in cases like this. Next you want your liner to run all the way down to the cleanout and be sealed there. We usually use a second tee there.
