I need to size out the length of for a stainless steel chimney liner, so I know its going to be a 6 ". From what two points top and bottom do a take to measure out the length of the chimney?

Frank

just outside the top to just below the damper, add a foot for good measure and you will never come up short.

Check your stove manual. From just above the top to just below the damper you may find a lil short.
I know PE says from chimney top to existing fireplace floor. You will lose some as it bends through the damper area. Better too long, than too short.
Most come in pre determined lengths. That will also be a factor.
