We started thinking about alternative heating, and decided on a masonry fireplace wood insert. We don't have a lot of stores selling these in our area, so westarted at a reputable fireplace store in Indianapolis.
They recommended a Napoleon for our use, and quoted us for a 1401 (2-3 years old) floor model and a partial liner. Installed this was going to be around 2647.00 for a partial liner or for a full fireplace liner it was estimated at 3400.00. After researching on this forum, we decided a full liner was the best way to go. But that price seemed high to us.
We then consulted a Chimney sweep that also sells & installs inserts. He came highly recommended as he installed one of our friend's inserts. Our fireplace is in great shape, and he said he could install a stove and full liner for around 2K.... Well, that is until we received the final written quote. His final quote for a full liner and a Napoleon 1402 (all black, no upgrades) was 4,000.00! Ack... we're going the wrong way.
I started researching on the Internet, and found I could get a Napoleon 1402 shipped to my house for 1686.00. A full liner kit brought it up to a total of 2166.00 including shipping. The shipping is the same price as tax would be in our State- and no tax on these orders! And best of all they were expecting a shipment this week and we could have it by early next week. Another internet store said they couldn't get us one until mid-December.
I called several other local chimney sweeps, and talked to one company (fully certified) that said they would install the liner and the insert for 500.00. So by buying off the internet, and having an independent chimney sweep install this, our total cost is going to be 2666.00.
Just thought I'd pass that along to those of you who are shopping.
