How's your piles doing?

Everyone set for next year? Half of this was last fall, the rest this spring. The pic is today's work
It's too hot to split, worse than that I'll be helping Dad out with some cutting tomorrow. Good thing it's a long weekend, I'll need Monday to recover

I had the same thing going on this AM....ATV...Huskee 22....pile o wood.

I'm about 2 cord shy of being good for '17/'18, so I'm all set for next year.

The doctor says my piles are doing good. As far as the wood stacks go I am good to go for 2014/2015.

But I seriously love that wood shed of yours and that ATV.

Impressive woodshed and stacks there, Bigcube. Nice heap of splits, too. How many cord do you burn through in the average winter? We're set for 3 winters, but I'm astounded how much the stacks have shrunk in height since stacking green. They were piled to eye height but now after drying out are about at chest height. Never really noticed the shrinkage until it was mentioned on this forum...

I maintain that a bunch of that is settling. Not shrinking. A cord of green oak weighs around 5,600 pounds. Stack it up and something low under that is gonna squat down over time.

I burn around 2-3 cord an average winter. 2 stacks is a cord in the shed, it will hold about 6 but could hold a few more rows. I don't like to fill the shed because it always falls over. I still have about 1 cord to split from my last load that will be stacked outside.

My 6 cord has been sitting in the sun all stacked since March. All of it was cut over the winter and split in the early spring before the bugs came out. I have 2 cord left over from the previous winter that I will burn first. Anything I cut this fall/winter will be for next winter.

Most of next years wood was c/s/s in 2009. I *think* I have everything split to get me through 14/15, I'll know more once I get time to stack it.

I have 12-13 and 13-14 cut, split and stacked, working on 14-15 now, have half of it stacked but it was too humid today to cut and split, maybe some tomorrow since its supposed to be drier.
Love that shed too, is that built off of your house or garage?

Working on 14/15, decided to add a cord or 2 to the usual amount to catch up & hope it's not needed

It's off the back of the garage. Once a week or so during the burning season I bring up a bunch of wood to the back porch.

Finished filling the woodshed with my wood supply for 2013-2014 this past weekend . . . and I have 4 1/2 cords of wood for 2014-2015 stacked and I've begun work on another stack.

Was just lamenting to a friend that have not seen any opportunities on CL lately for firewood. He asked how much I have on hand...replied at about 2 years worth. His response was don't get too much more as it may go bad before you burn it. Of course, I had to disagree

I love when people tell me that. I just tell them as long as you keep it off the ground and top covered it'll last just fine. Heck even my stacks without the top cover mine seem to do just fine.

I'm good for 13 - 14 and have about half of 12 -13 brought home but needs split. I Know it's a little backwards ,but that's just the way it worked out. The 13 -14 wood is white oak and the 12 - 13 wood is ash and a cord of cotten wood. All together I have about 15 full cord at home.

Did some splitting and stacking Saturday and should be pretty close to being out to 14-15. Have another couple cord of red oak and american elm to split yet along with about a cord of cherry and beech.

My pile is not so great. It's off the ground but needs to be stacked. Well, has needed to be stacked for some time. I think I burnt myself out, got too excited in having enough.

I moved 6 cords into the wood shed for 2012 - 2013
as far as 2013-2014 goes it is all ready split and dry. I am now working on 2014-2015

Mine is doing well, it doesn't look too pretty but i will take it being that my property is very hilly.I think i am going to place a pallet on the bottom of the hill and nail it into the two trees that the pile butts up to. Hopefully this will help keeping the pile in place.

Looks great and nice spacing between the stacks. I am slowly working on convincing the Mrs. that we need a wood shed.
