Husky Briggs engine trouble?

I have the 22 ton Husky splitter purchased in the fall of 2012 and I am having problems with it running smoothly. In order to keep it running smooth I have to place my finger or a piece of tape over the tiny hole. There is fresh gas in the splitter, non ethanol. I suspect carburetor issues. I did pull the carb off this winter and cleaned it out, blew air through the little ports and it ran a little better but not like it should. Also replaced the plug.

What is the next step? Do they sell a carb rebuild kit with a new jet? Not sure what else there is to replace in there.

There is a small hole in the middle of the primer bulb. What is the gasket you speak of?

It should go carb--gasket--intake. If gasket is bad, you have an air leak. Posting engine model # can bring more accurate answers. Eg: 123K02 0193 E1

It is the 190cc Briggs

You need the 6-4-2 engine model # I showed above. Usually embossed on a sheet metal shroud.

That is what I did the first time.

Oh I thought you were saying you did it with air. Could be needle or float, jet, gasket. You'll prob have to pull off clean and inspect all parts. Make sure the floats moving correctly. Sounds like a fuel issue

I do know rebuild kits generally run fairly cheap so maybe an idea if your already gonna pull it off.

I'd search ebay for Briggs & Stratton 799868 carburetor. AM ones are $14 shipped. A carb kit is $6-$11.

Also, pay attn to the air filter housing gasket - where it mounts to the carb. The air filter housing can warp and let's too much air in - sometimes needs double gasket.

Thanks everyone. Purchase the carb kit and installed most of the pieces, cleaned out the carb with carb cleaner put it all back together, new air filter new fuel filter and it runs like a champ.

Not sure what the problem was but it is running great now. Thanks again to everyone who responded.

I'm glad you got it going. I'm guessing the problem was still clogged jets. You need ro run a wire through them to get the stuff out (or at least that's what I've always done). Some pro mechanics may balk at that, but it's always worked for me. Still, a new kit works good, too, especially as cheap as they are.

Did the carb kit come with a new primer bulb? Just curious if the pin hole you mentioned in the primer bulb was drawing enough air to mess with proper fuel delivery?
