I have built a firewood calculator and hopefully some of you might find it useful, it is a bit different from others I have seen so far online.

  • Calculates total cordage based on woodpile size as well as total cubic ft. Cordage is outputted both in cord and face cord as both are widely used depending on area. It also shows aliases for both cord types for example a Face cord is known as a "Rick" in some places and a cord can be known as a bush cord or standard cord.
  • Gives an estimate on weight depending if you chose dry or wet
  • Gives estimated "Heating Energy" (BTU) as well as equivalent in electrical (kWh), and heating oil (gallons). This is also dependent on whether dry or wet as BTU changes substantially.
  • Fun random firewood fact displayed at bottom on each calculation.

Hope you find it useful: https://boisafeudunord.com/tools/cord-calc.html

Appreciate feedback, and if there is something you think should be added, let me know.

The calculator has been used 500 times in the last 24 hours, great to see!

Few more things incoming:

- Option to use it in "stack" mode or pile mode for loose piles.
- Switch between metric and imperial
- Some more wood types to add
- In stack mode options to set number of rows and gap size.
- Option to set wood stove / burner efficiency %.

There is now a new version available:

- You can switch between Metric and Imperial
- Set burn efficiency
- More wood types added
- Bunch of small fixes, some organizing the layout, top menu improved for mobile
- API moved to a bigger server

Have a safe and happy holidays!

Been awhile, lost of updates went live today! Here is a list of what was done:

- Improved wood type grouping and changed naming. Now all "Oak" or "Birch" for example are grouped together.
- Added "group" to all "tree_species" in API data for greater flexibility.
- Added some Eucalyptus wood types commonly used in Australia as firewood for our friends down under.
- Wood type dropdown is now more intuitive, selection boxes have been added to clearly indicate a wood type has been selected.
- Search function added to Wood Types selection.
- Bug fixed where absolute 100% was required in wood selection % fields, maing it impossible to select three wood types and calculate.
- Woodpile width default unit changed from in to ft.
- Made text under wood type selection dynamic reflecting what the user has selected or not selected. Changed color for better visibility.
- Wood type % percentage fields now auto-fill based on amount of wood types selected. 1 = 100%, 2 = 50% and so on. These are still editible by the user, auto-fill just streamlines things and makes a bit more intuitive.
- Email: You can now have calculator output emailed to you (your email is not stored).
