I just bought a used fireplace insert and need to know what the metal plate that goes inside the insert is for. It sits in the back wall of the insert and is at an angle, have an idea but not sure. Thanks for any explanations.
 
It's called a baffle. Directs the flame and heat away from the flue opening so it stays in the stove longer.
