I bought a cabin that has a stove sitting in the corner all hooked up . The prior owner burned only wood but left me all the cast parts or burning coal, he said it worked well with coal but he only used wood 'cause he had unlimited supply right out back. No manuals no nothing to go with it. It is a Vermont Castings Resolute with a single pull down door in front or top load. Has the flip up or down baffle inside also a draft control on bottom, an ash pan and the grates are made for shaking....looks like you can shake the grates from outside with door closed.
Here is my question... How the heck do the grates go in? there are 3 that look to be for the fire to sit on, these have a bracket with a hole in one end ( I assume brackets all have below the grates) they are made to fit into holes in the wall of the stove, 3 pcs of cast that look to form the sides to hold the coal on a pile...1 long 2 short all 3 look the same. Does the long one go across the front by the door? what about the 2 short sides or back? then there is an odd shaped cast piece about 6" long that looks to work with the shaker and hook up with the 3 grates with the holes in their ends but how? It also has a cast handle for shaking the grates that when not in use sits in a hole in front of stove shelf.
Any help or info as to where to down load a manual will "grately" be appreciated
