Well in spite of not needing another stove I went and looked at one yesterday and it was way to good of a deal to pass up. The guy I work with told me his brother in law was wanting to get rid of this stove ASAP and didnt’ want to much for it as he needed it gone right now. So I went yesterday after work and looked at it/bought it. He bought the house with this stove in it last year and said when he tried to use it it would just smoke and put itself out said it was the biggest piece of junk stove he ever owned. He also complained that the glass was supposed to stay clean but would turn black within 45 minutes of lighting it up so there was no reason to have glass and he was putting a Fisher back in his house. I tried to explain it was probably his wood but he didn’t want to hear it so now I am the owner of a 2006 Large Dutchwest for $250. The stove is in great shape other than a little bit of surface rust from his leaking chimney (bye the way you should have seen his chimney setup).

Wow, bet you were smiling all the way home with that deal in the rear view.

Well it may have been his wood. and probably lack of burning skills. But i owned that stove for a few years and i had a hell of a time with that thing and lead to me purchasing the blazeking. but good luck to ya and thats a great price. that is the 2479? correct? with the everburn? keep an eye on cold nights that thing likes to take off on ya just watch the air intake. not a bad idea to put an air control on it in case of runaways.

No this Dutchwest is the Large 2461 Cat model....I would never own one of the Everburns I have heard way to many bad reports. I have burned wood in Dutchwest cat stoves forupwards of 20 years without a probelm, was the stove you owned the Everburn model?

I'm gonna say that looks like the Dutchwest 2461 Large Cat. I ran that stove for 20 years. Sweet ride if the wood is dry - if not- tough times!! I pulled it out of my parents house a few years ago, and its now sitting on a dolly under my boiler. :long: My living room set-up is not ideal for a free standing stove - so I'm currently burning an insert. She WILL see fire again, one day :coolsmirk: ! She WILL, I SAY!! SHE WILL!! Congrats dude!! Awesome find!!

I kind of feel like I stole it from the guy but you can't say that I didn't try to tell him what the problem with the stove was. Yes I was smiling on the way home but my wife wasn't when I pulled in the driveway with it. :-) Now I just need to figure out what I want to do with it.

Hey certified -- I'll drive the 15 hours -- and give you $350!!!!

Yeah i had the everburn. the stoves look very similar. well that is good. Good luck with it then. i just cringe whenever i see someone purchase the everburn becuz of the problems i had with that thing. THats def a killer price you got on that thing.

Wow! You fell into a real deal there certified. Congratulations.

Great score! Does this mean you are dumping the T6... ;)

Even though I bought the Englander 30, the DW XL Cat stove was on the top of my list. I think they are one of the best bangs for the buck.

Here are a few pics of the surface rust from the leaking chimney I mentioned. I think I am going to wire brush/steel wool the stove down, wipe it with IPA, and paint it to make it look as good as new. I checked all the gaskets last night before I bought it and the looked good so I might not have to replace any of them well other than the top gasket where I have had the top plate on and off to look at the Cat which bye the way is shot. It was a ceramic cat and it is literally crumbling to pieces from the wet wood they were burning. Lucky for me I kept my 1.5 year old stainless cat when I sold the XL so all I have to do is pull it off the shelf and slap it in there. I will post pics of the tear down and repaint so everyone can see the difference.

Haha, no I'm not ditching the T6..... My previous Dutchwest was the XL and this one wouldn't be quite big enough for me. I wish I could have found an XL with airwash on the glass for $250!

I am kicking the idea around of selling it :) but that would be a heck of a drive lol

I just couldn't resist getting started on this project. So here it goes, So far I have wire brushed/steel wooled the top back and right side and they are ready to be wiped down and painted.

Next I pulled the top off and cleaned out the refractory, blew out/cleaned the cat combustion air inlet tubing, cleaned out the top of the stove, checked the bypass gasket, adjusted the bypass locking mechanism so it latches tight, threw the old cat away, pulled off the top plate gasket chiseled out the cement and cleaned out the gasket groove. The refractory looks like it's in great shape to bad the cat isn't also.

And folks this is what your cat looks like after burning improperly. Seriously I have worn cats out to the point they wouldn't light off but I have never had one disintegrate in my hands.

It looks like the previous owner might have been burning with the cat air-intake dial closed all the way. Besides burning green wood - that will toast a cat in no time.

Welcome to the multiple stove owners club. The club seems to get more members each year.

Nice find, I would of jumped on it as well. Do you have a place in your home for it or will the T-6 be all you need?

The T6 is all I need to heat the main part of my house however I have kicked around finishing the basement but that's along way off and I'm not sure how I would get a chimney to it. I always thought if I finished the basement A pellet stove would be the easiest thing to put down since it would only get used sporadically plus I wouldn't need a three story chimney.... I just couldn't pass this deal up the stove was in way to good of shape to walk away from for that price.

Finally got back to it this afternoon and got the front, left side and both doors prepped for painting. Now I just need to blow the stove off, wipe it down, and mask the glass for painting. I did realize today that one of the andirons is missing. I was told that they thought it was in the as in the stove but when I cleaned out the inside I couldn't find it. At least that was the only surprise I have found every thing else looks like it is in great shape.
