So I've moved from "Hey honey the stove/living room is nice and toasty!" to "Hrmmm...how do we go about distributing heat?"

Tonight I got out the only two fans I owned and started to move some heat. The video states what the temps were when I started, but right now it is 74F in the living room where the insert is and 71-72F in the hallways. I'll take it, but can't help but be worried for when we hit Winter and I need to crank the stove blower on high to extract as much heat from the wood as possible...that darn blower is too loud. The insert had oak uglies stuffed in there this evening, C/S/chucked in a pile since the beginning of 2013.

THANK YOU! For providing a video that I could show to the Mrs., PROVING that I'm not the biggest nerd in the world ;lol

In all seriousness, that's excellent. Well done.

My wife hates all my hobbies, an excessing about everything, but deep down inside she knows I'd bug the chit out of her if I didn't have them. :p

Last night it was "it's too hot in here <the living room where the insert is>" and this evening it is "it's too windy in here" now that I'm distributing the heat. I can't win, but at least I know it annoys her more not to win either. :)

If TPing the house gets you through the day... who am I to judge?

:)

That's a good idea to show airflow.

You need to pick up and work on perfecting a few more distracting bad habits so that she ignores the wood stove stuff. Works for me ;)

That said, you should make a sequel once temps get 15 degrees or lower (like dead of winter time).

The comparison would be key. What I find is I can keep temps more average in the shoulder season. There will be temporary "extra hottness" in the stove area, but come heating season when I'm cranking the stove full tilt, I think heat soak in that area versus heat sink in the rooms only getting a draft, gives me greater variability.

Each house will vary of course.

I'm not sure your wife even knows what you're up to.
She seemed pretty engrossed in what she was doing.
Like pen, I'm curious how this will work when it gets cold. You should still see air movement, but whether it'll be enough should be interesting.

She looked like she was surfing the net. She's probably following his posts on Hearth.com and thinking, "He's gonna do WHAT?"

Awesome vid, ya I got made fun of last year just for putting little thermometers in all the rooms she thought I was nuts. Just wait until I use your TP idea!

Or on Twitter typing "@nutjob is TPing my living room!". >>

I am gonna watch the vid now. But that is what I use at the top of the fireplace opening and door frames to find the convection flow too.

Definitely Winter temps will be more of a challenge. If I lived down South this would be easy. :p

I may use the air-conditioning handlers to move some air, but they are up in the attic and will be very cold, thus cooling down the hot air I'm trying to circulate. We'll see.

Wanna know what the temp is in each upstairs bedroom? My liiving room or basement? Attic + humidity?

Any advice where I can get AA and AAA batteries wholesale?

I just took the dog out to pee. On a positive note I cannot smell any smoke outside at this time. Good for me and the neighbors close by.

And the wife just went to bed... as she enters the master bedroom she yells "It's cold on here!" I can't win I tell ya. Haha.

I move the small black fan into the beginning of the kitchen, next to the dining room as the kitchen and sunroom are not insulated well and they are around the corner from the stove, tough to heat. We'll see how that works. So long as I see my convection loop still working, I'm happy.

You have no idea how you just made my day. We bought the house a little over a year ago and I took a week off to do my first (and likely last) floor refinishing job based off some youtube videos. PIA, but I was really happy with the outcome for beat up floors from 1957. The previous owner had dogs and they stained the floors. This albumn shows the pics from the real estate listing, then the floors prior to refinishing, then the radiant heating loop I found in my ceilings (thus why my ceilings were all "popcorn" style to hide previous leaks), and then finally going through the refinishing process...never again. Haha.

You can still see the painters tape all over the baseboards.... refinishing them is "on the list." ;) haha.

No BG. No. Let's don't roll with this again.

Don't send this thread down the pooper!

Just for the record (in this thread) you didn't operate this stove in the house last winter?

Is this new or are you just getting some stats down on record?

1st season for me and the insert...learning the ropes with 10 cords I started C/S/Sing in Nov of 2012. This particular load was Oak Uglies that didn't get the best air to dry them out, but seems to be doing ok.

"learning" with 10 cords ! wow diving right in eh?

That's decent distribution for your layout, I bet you'll find the optimum place to put the fans with a little more TP work. I'm surprised the pup isn't in front of the stove, guess it isn't cold enough yet.

Excellent strategy suggestion!

I suggest heavy drinking and staying out way late in the pub playing darts with the lads and having a few pints!
