Never heard of this tree haha good wood? Not hickory. But I'm going to say that based on the bark and the leaves, it looks like American Persimmon to me. That would be a pretty good sized Persimmon for PA.
Alrighty than guess when I burn some I'll let u know how it does! Thanks everyone. It's been years since I cut cucumber tree (Magnolia acuminata) wood, but the leaves and leaf arrangement kinda look like it. I've never burned it, but the mills will take the big ones that grow tall in the forest.
Some of the leaves can be huge, like 12" long. The timber guys call them cucs (pronounced "kyooks").
Horse Chestnut
Ah true, I spaced on the leaf, was looking more at the wood and the bark. Leaf is def not Maple. my bad. Those leaves are neither maple, ash, or hickory. Where've you seen a Maple leaf that looks like that, Hogz???
Again, going by the leaf, could be Persimmon... the angle on the leaf shot is a little odd / awkward for ID. The ends of the rounds look like Persimmon, as well, although I've never seen the split face of the same.
That's exactly what it looks like! An it was standing dead, or almost had a few leaves at the top, it came down this winter during a storm.
Nice! I'm excited! Its Hickory. The last couple years ive cut about 15 standing dead hickorys. Last winter its all i burned.
