I am looking to put a 8" duct in my fire place room and run 8" flex ducting to my bedroom approximately 35 feet away. I would then install an inline fan. Has anyone tried this successfully.

It could work if the duct is within the insulated space of the home. Best not going through an uninsulated attic.

I have a duct, but I suck cold air from my living room floor and deposit it in the stove room (in the basement). That way warmer air from the stove room will flow back through the stairs and hallway to the living room etc.

Works well.

Make sure you buy a silent fan, as silent as possible. And don't mount it to studs or so, if you can avoid.
I mounted it on a lumber construction bolted to the concrete slab in my basement and have a 2 ft of flex duct connected to the fan, to avoid sound/vibrations into the framing of the home, and into the metal duct.
