Insert sizing question

This might be a stupid question, but how much room do you need between the top of the fireplace opening and the top of a fireplace insert surround? I'm looking at a enviro Boston, which has a surround height of 30 13/16". My fireplace is 29" tall. Wasn't sure how much overlap there should be. Thanks in advance.

There does not need to be any overlap at all. In fact you don't need the surround at all as long as the insert is installed correctly the surround is only cosmetic and serves no functional purpose.
