Im looking into getting my first wood insert. I know that blaze king has thermostats on most of there free standing stoves. But I plan on getting an insert. Is there any inserts that have thermostats? Im assuming that having a T-stat would make life alot easier. Or is it really not that big of a deal

Sorry, the geek in me can't let this go. A thermostat is a device that controls temperature, a thermometer is a device that measures temperature. While I agree that a thermostat on an insert would be great, you are probably just looking for a thermometer.

I had a Stove Stat on my last insert. It worked well.

I paid less, but that was a couple years ago.

The Princess insert has a thermostat, works just like the stoves.

From my experience, the BK thermostat doesn't work as I would expect it to. It holds a pretty constant temp through the majority of the cycle. Towards the end of the burn, however, one would expect it to open as the stove cools. Maybe it does a little, but requires opening it fully to get heat out of the coals and burn them down for a reload. There is another 4-5 hours of good heat left in the coal bed, and this is where I would expect it to open and maintain temp until there isn't enough fuel left, and the stat is fully open. It doesn't work that way, but does a great job of controlling output on a 80+ pound load of wood. To me, it's a good, predictable, fairly precise, primary air control.

excellent seems like the BK princess is the insert for me. It seems like it would make burning wood that much easier especially since I wont be able to watch the stove most of the time.
