Greeting from France, as a new member. The house we bought unfortunately has a 13kw insert wood burner rather than a smaller freestanding one we would have preferred. Needless to say I cannot put a temperature gauge on the flue. I can however attach one to the fascia at the top of the firebox. We have never had a wood burner before, can someone please advise on the best way to monitor the temp on an insert fire, and also if I am getting a good reading on the firebox will that mean a good reading in the flue also?

Welcome to Hearth. Post a few pictures of your stove setup.

Here are three pics which indicate where I have placed the thermometer.
