Hey guys,

Got another question. I was speaking with a guy at work that had an insert installed years ago. He said after he installed the insert he had to have it inspected. Is this the standard? It may have just been his area or something. I live in PA. Anyone have an install done, or do an install and have to have it inspected. I dont mind having it done, i plan on everything being up to code, im just curious what it will cost.

Inspection is typically for insurance reasons, if your insurance company requires such.
Inspection is typically required if you pulled a permit for the install. No permit, no inspection needed. No fat funds going to the township either.

I'm having an Accentra 52i pellet stove insert installed this coming Monday. And yes, I had to obtain my own permit through my township prior to installation and afterwards it will be inspected. I was tod the inspector will be out to my house the following day.

We have only had to have inspections a few times in our work area for simple stove or insert hookups but i know lots of guys need them almost every time. It will vary allot depending on your municipality.

I pulled a building permit for mine so the building inspector came and inspected it. I didnt want to have any issues with insurance if i ever had a fire claim. I also had my insurance guy come and inspect and sign off on it. Hated paying the money for a building permit but i sleep easier knowing its all legal and above board.
My permit was like $50 or so.

Thanks for the info guys. Ill gibe the township a call on monday to inquire. Just finished the new slate hearth, so if they ask about it, im gonna say it was already done. Im damn sure not tearing it up, and its up to code.

Thanks again guys.
