Installing a Harman XXV free standing, venting concerns please help.

I have decided to go with a Harman XXV free standing cast iron pellet stove. I have a raised ranch and am planning on venting it directly out the wall on the 2nd floor. In the fall time the leaves from my neighbors house blow into my yard (on the side of the house I am putting the stove). I would assume that in the winter the wind would blow the same way so I am concerned about the side of my house being discolored from soot. Maybe I am overthinking this however I wanted to see what you guys think.

My house is a light tan/yellow color and the installer said he can do the install straight out 1-2ft for $675 (code is 1ft). He also said if I want he can go out and up to the roofline for $900. IF he were to go directly out and I wanted him to come back to go out (due to soot) and up to the roofline it would be an additional $350 for labor and piping.

If I did end up going out and up I am sure it would be MUCH harder to clean each year. I have added a couple pictures below, the stove pipe would probably come out between the attic vent on the left and the hump on the left side of the chimney.

What route would you go? Does your pellet stove (Harman) put off soot and discolor your house? Do they burn alot cleaner and am I overthinking this?

I would go out to a tee, up (but only the 4 feet specified by Harman to keep the
natural draft going should there be a power failure)& then a 90 out
1 ft with a jet cap on the end, turned slightly downwards.
Both of my Harmans are set up this way & I have no issues with sooting.
You can clean the venting out to the tee from inside the house, taking care not to damage the ESP.
You can clean the vertical section by removing the cover on the tee.
If your brush rod is flexible enough, you may be able to get to most of the horizontal section as well.
Clean the cap & you're done.
It should be said that the the vertical section & cap will have to be brushed while on a ladder.
If you're uncomfortable with that...

I was not sure what Harman suggested as far as the verticle limit. Now that I know it is 4ft I will probably just go straight out and have a cap at the end facing at an angle downward as soon on most setups. I do understand what you are saying about the T then up however with that setup I think that it would look terrible and have a higher chance of soot on the house. Do you have a picture you can post of your setup?

I am comfortable with cleaning the pipe and being on a ladder that is not an issue. The issue would be IF the pipe went up to the roof line (6-8ft) up I am not sure I could clean the entire piping well even even with a T at the bottom.

Hello

Having the vertical rise on the outside of the house is not as good. The cold air outside prematurely condenses the warm gas inside the venting so it needs cleaning much more frequently.

I choose Selkirk DT for my Harmans. Cleaning the up & out kit is a breeze with the leaf blower outside and the vacuum cleanout on the inside! ! !

OK. The freekin rain has stopped I got a pic of the venting on my P43. Contrary to what Don2222 says, & with all respect to his opinion, I clean this baby every 3 weeks & the venting has yet to be an issue. Only minor buildup with the run outside...

I have yellow siding and have never had problem with soot. Snow tends to drift on the side where my vent is and no problems. Set up is direct vent out the back. My rise is inside also. the thimble with the OAK is the way to go.

thank you everyone for your input. After looking into this I think I am going to just come out 1-2ft out of the house with a slight bend down. I am going to however look into this OAK adapter. What do they normally cost?

I saw the thread above about the OAK adapter but I am a little confused about what it does. Can someone please dumb it down for me? Why/what would I benefit?

I like the Selkirk DT for a situation like this. It entrains a lot of clean outside air into the exhaust plume which not only dillutes the dirty exhaust air but also pushes the exhaust far away from the house. Similar idea to laboratory exhaust fans that you see on the rooftops of laboratory buildings.

After talking with the place that is going to install the stove (same place I am buying it from) they are going to put two T fittings inside the house. This will allow me to clean the stove on the inside and NOT have to get up on a ladder on the outside. They will also be putting a "jet cap" on the outside which will push the exhaust out further. Prob solved

gotta go to the town to get the building permit and wait for the pellets to be delivered now.
