Installing ducting to pull intake air from cool basement

I had a brainwave the other day, I was wondering if it was a good idea or stupid idea to duct intake air to a register in the basement ceiling directly below it.

This would in effect draw fresh air from the furthest, coolest point of the house, as opposed to right behind the stove. Hypothetically, this would allow the air to circulate better and draw cool air from the basement to be displaced by warmer air from upstairs.

Is this going to work or is it a ridiculous idea?

I don't think it will work as intended because of the different pressures the house experiences in the climate cycles. It will not be just the exchange of air at the stove being made up by the basement air coming up. There are other places in the house through gaps and cracks that will play a role in this. Plus having an open register like that between the basement and living floors may be a fire code violation unless it is directly ducted.

Those air exchanges would just draw in more colder air from the outside as mentioned by vinny. Any inside air lost would be replaced with cold outside air. Best to pull cold air thru an OAK from outside.
