I'm attempting to install a firebox into an existing brick fireplace. I need to increase the opening height by only 30 mm so that the firebox can fit. The course above the lintel is in the soldier pattern which is not ideal, since below the lintel is the half bond/stretcher pattern. I'm reluctant to grind out the brick hearth because of all the dusk. Any ideas what is the best way to proceed?
