We have a Heatilator E42 model wood fireplace in the family room of our 10 year old home. My husband wants to bring in an Intrepid II that his parents aren't really using anymore, put it in the family room and use the existing chimney. He already knows he'll need to get the shorter legs for the Intrepid II, expand the hearth area for the stove to stand on safely, and that we'll need to get a couple permits from the building inspector. We're just wondering about the chimney itself, can we use the Heatilator 8" chimney as-is, or if not, can we just add a 6" liner of some kind to it and make it usable for the Intrepid that way?

By the way, hello from a new member, and I appreciate any advice you can give! :)

You're gonna hafta insulate the liner before you run it down the ZC flue.
The ZC chimney isn't rated for the higher temps of a wood burning stove & it
probably was installed with a minimum of 2-3" of clearance to the wood framing
in the chimney chase...
WAY too close for stove pipe
