Is it time to tap for syrup yet?

It is my first year tapping my trees for syrup.
We have 6 nice size trees and I am excited to start.
It is kind of early here in south central WI, but the 10 day forecast only has 1 day that doesn't get above freezing, so I tapped the trees.
Too early?
If so, is it a big deal?

Depends on region. Not here yet. You need it to freeze at night and be warm during the day. Then the sap will run good.

Usually I think we are closer to the beginning of March, but with the attached 10 day forecast, I went with it.

We've got a few good looking days coming up this week but not enough to make me tap. The big guys on vacuum will definitely benefit from the run but for us small guys (50-75 buckets) it probably won't be worth it. Still feet of snow in the bush. Probably March 3rd or later before we tap.

I already did. Had good weather the end of January. Got an amazing amount of sap from 2 sugars and 3 taps. They are south facing on my property line with full crowns.
