Is that hum normal??

I just had my insert hot enough to kick on the fans today, and when I adjust the fan speed with the rheostat the dealer installed, I can hear the hum of the motors when I crank the speed down. It is not that noticeable when the stat is cranked all the way up because the fan noise drowns it out. I was wondering if this hum was normal or is there something I can do to eliminate it?

Its not that bad if I have to live with it.

I don't know if it is normal but the fans on my old insert and the one on my new stove both do the same thing.

I have a 4300 Quad and my fan does the same thing.

My blower hums a little at the lowest speed too... I think its just the motor in the blower.

My blower hums a little at the lowest speed too... I think its just the motor in the blower. At high speed the sound of the motor/blades drowns out the humming of the motor itself.

At the lower speeds, the speed control is chopping out most of the AC wave, reducing the effective power going to the motor. The remnant little pulses create a little more noise because they have sharp edges and they're surrounded by 0 volts. Kind of like speed bumps in the voltage. It's only a problem if you notice the motor smoking, or your wife complains about it.

Ken, Do you have the new or old model Clydesdale?

I have the newer model and the motors are very quiet. What I have noticed on the new model at certain fan speeds is the thin metal plate that sits between the motors just under the center mounted fan control tends to vibrate from time to time. Just reach under the fan control and touch the bottom of the plate and you will notice the vibration disappears. I ended up sticking a rubber plug under the plate, jammed between the plate and hearth floor and that solved the vibration issue..
