I dont think the garn is a true gasifier as a really good secondary combustion unit. A gasifier requires air drawn through the red coals to strip the Oxygen and leave the hydrogen, which then burns and produces water vapour. The Garn isnt set up for this, is it? Any thoughts?

wade, garn calls it a secondary reaction chamber, ceramic lined to isolate the low waterside temps found in most primary chambers that will not support combustion of the wood gas, the secondary reaction chamber does combined with the secondary air burn the wood gas that is produced in the primary chamber , i have a type k thermocouple that reads from 1700/2300degf . these temps are only capable in a enviornment capable of secondary burn. call it what you will, it gets the job done, however it is different from the secondary burn chambers of a downdraft gasifier mostly because of the independant secondary air control that is more precise.if you compare combustion effiency results based on flue gas analysis they all have comparable results , pick your flavor!

I like to call it all "forced secondary combustion."

No-no. its induced secondary combustion.

One thing to point out about the garn not really having the primary and secondary chamber completely separated is that the primary chamber get good mixing and there is some burning of the wood gas in this chamber. And if you notice there is a lack of creosote build up in the primary due to this unlike the DD's. From the pics that I've seen of DD's primary chamber they look almost as bad as some owb's.

whats your point, {secondary gas} ignites at 1200degf, documented temps of 2300degf in secondary reaction chamber, end of it!
