Looks like it could be . . . do the scratch and sniff test . . . if it's cherry chances are it will have a pleasant, sweet smell.

P.S. Don't let your spouse catch you sniffing the wood, they'll think you are nuts.
 
Yes, that's cherry.
 
Maybe black birch. How does it smell. Especially a leaf.
 
Sure looks like it. If it splits easier than almost anything, that's also a sign it's cherry.
