Doesn't look like it, have a picture of the bark? Trim a small piece and burn it, if you crave barbecue when you smell the smoke it's hickory.
Thank you, wasn't sure because some of the pics I've seen of Pignut Hickory had similar looking bark. Happy either way though because both are great burners.
I remember playing Little League baseball in Atlanta, years ago. On every baseball bat, it was burned into the wood, MADE WITH NORTHERN WHITE ASH.

I'm surprised there's enough ash left to make bats. Maybe they rat-holed a bunch of ash several years ago when they realized the extent of the emerald ash borer crisis.
We are loaded with ash here. Won’t always be. I cut about 6 down on my property this winter that had been showing signs of dying, and dropping limbs on the roof. But man, there seems to be a lot around.
