My wife and I just purchased our house. It was built in 1982 if I remember correctly. The previous owner was the first person to own it and never used the fireplace.
I have cleaned out the fireplace to get rid of all the bugs cobwebs etc, but upon looking at the flue from the inside, I swear I am seeing a gap where there shouldn't be one.

The fireplace is a Majestic TRC42. Where the chimney exits the roof, it is wood, so I believe I am correct in thinking this is a prefab metal chimney.

You can see the gap in the picture that I took looking up the flue, then I moved the camera close to the gap so you can see the light coming through it. The chimney appears to be air insulated.

This was the only thing I saw that has me slightly concerned as I would think there needs to be no gaps where the flue meets the top of the fireplace. If this needs to be fixed, can I just bend it back, or does it need to be sealed with something from the (unreachable without tearing up the surrounding brick) outside and be airtight?

Thank you for any answers.

I need to add, I realize some pieces are missing from the front face of the fireplace, I took them off to clean and they will of course be going back on.

I had a similar situation years ago. I took a 1X1, put furnace cement on the end and reached up and dabbed it in the crack until it was sealed up. I don't know if it needs to be as there isn't combustibles and the stove shouldn't daft into a cold sealed off space.
