Jotul F3CB 34" mantel clearance spec looks... bizarre.

I am trying to purchase a Jotul stove and the F3CB Mantel clearance specs looks incorrect. When comparing their three similar stoves, the F3CB mantel number is way out of line with the model just smaller and larger than it.

Here are the numbers from the 3 installation PDF's:

STOVE .. Width. x Height x Depth Clearance MANTEL TOP SIDE
F100 PDF 20.75" x 22.50" x 17.50" ........... 22" 17" 14"
F3CB PDF 22.75" x 27.87" x 19.00" ........... 34" 20" 13"
F400 PDF 26.50" x 28.50" x 23.25" ........... 25" 23" 13"

MM
F100 PDF 527 x 570 x 445 560 430 335
F3CB PDF 577 x 707 x 484 860 510 330

F400 PDF 673 x 724 x 590 635 585 300

34" clearance from stove to mante?! 34" - 20" = 14" high mantel ?! The only thing that makes sense is that this is a typo and should have been 24" and then all of the numbers would line up. In fact the old manual from 1998 lists all of 12" / 305mm for a 6" mantel depth. Ah, the good ol' days.

I would love to purchase a Jotul, and the F3CB is the only fit with an ash tray, however the 34" / 860 number is way off .. it requires a 62" / 1.57m high mantel?

It is what it is. The manual is the guiding document. This is what the testing came up with. I you think it is in error, contact Jotul. The 34" could be reduced a bit with the short leg kit and/or a mantel shield. There are some other stoves you might look at like the Hampton H200 (or H300 if you want larger).

Thanks, I have contacted Jotul, but the only email I could find was the main one in .no (US contact page is blank) so I'm not optimistic about a reply.

I've been all over the H200... rear exit is 1" too high. H200 short legs removes the ash tray. Also, the H200 does not spec the first trim, just mantel height.

Contact Regency or Hampton with concerns about mantel trim. If that is the only issue it may be addressed by a discrete mantel shield attached to the lintel.

I almost had to take my mantel down due to that clearance requirement. You can reduce clearance with a mantel shield.
