Just bought an Englander 13-nc, and in the process of installing it. When we unpacked it, we seen there is a piece of styrofoam type material in the top, you can see it when looking down the pipe opening. Is this suppose to be there or is it just packing material? Also, I need advice on starting a fire, this is a totally different set up than I'm use to. Thanks!

That piece / pieces are the stove baffle.. They look like white styrofoam. They should be tight together and pushed to the back of the stove above the secondary burn tubes. Starting that stove is pretty much like any other stove. Slowly get a fire going. Wait till the load of wood is engulfed and chard. Then turn down the damper in small increments over the course of several minutes. You will probably have to leave the door open an inch or so while getting the fire going. When going good shut the door. When it's hot enough you should see secondary burn above the fire coming out of the burn tubes.

Yep that's the baffle and without it you'd lose a lot of heat up the chimney. Be about like using old smoke dragon
