Like most everyone here at the forum I burned more wood than normal this winter. I've gone through over four cords of wood so far, so to keep a three years supply under cover I needed to expand my covered storage space. I added another eight foot bay and then re-roofed the main storage shed so that I could add another row of wood along its entire 32 feet length. This lets me stack three rows now instead of two. I have two other smaller storage spots that are filled up now, as well. Here are some photos:

This is my main storage area. There are four bays here - each is eight feet wide and about seven feet tall and they hold three rows deep.

Set back from this area on the far right is a carport where I park my garden tractor and other yard equipment. I stack wood under the roof to form a wall for the carport. Currently there are two rows that are eleven feet long and eight feet tall stacked under it.

This is a closer view of those stacks. That mess to the left is my wife's gardening work area, which she hasn't gotten ship shape yet for the season.

And finally, here are two more rows stored behind a retainer wall in the back yard. All together I can store about 12 cords under cover. I just finished working up some oak to fill all the spots. To replenish what I burned this year and to fill my expansion I've processed about eight cords of wood over the past two months. I have another cord or so of oak left to finish up from the last tree I've been working on. I'll stack that inside the carport making a third row. I hope to be finished for the year next week if the weather cooperates. It's a good feeling to have this finished off before it starts getting hot here in western NC.

That is a beautiful thing. It's worked into the landscape, even. I remember my Mom clued me into a poets line concerning old, weathered barns. To paraphrase, they didn't appear to be built, but grew there instead. :)

Quite a hoard you have, there, NM! Looks great.

Soon be time to put that greenhouse to good use, too.

outstanding! That is some good looking wood!

those stacks are to pretty to burn. Now you have to get busy cutting more wood so you don't have to burn that stuff.

My wood is approximately 90% oak with a little poplar, sourwood, and pine mixed in. That's pretty much the makeup of the woods on our 11 acres of wooded land here in western NC.

That is super impressive. How many cords do you burn a year?

Got wood? ;lol

Cool, I just finished emptying mine...

I'm not sure how much wood I'll burn in a typical year. I just got a Jotul F 600 at the end of last year's burning season, so this was my first full season with the new stove. So far I've gone through about four cords of wood, but I've got a second stove (Woodstock Classic) in the lower level of our home and I burned that stove along with the F 600 during several of the cold snaps we had. Here in western NC in the foothills we had several spells where we were down in the single digits at night and never got out of the 20s for several days for several days at a time. When it gets that cold I'll burn both stoves during the daytime. I'm thinking in a more typical winter I'll burn between 3 and 4 cords.
