Keep a good looking load of wood in the stove all Summer?

We're doing some entertaining tomorrow and I glanced at the empty wood stove and thought it would look much prettier with a load of good looking seasoned oak. Then I wondered it it would release moisture and rust the stove if it just sat there for a few month. Thoughts?

Why not put candles in there, instead of a load of wood? This is what my wife does and she lights them when she wants a little ambiance. You'll be surprised at how much light it gives off.

I wouldnt leave it for more than a couple days, maybe a week.

I did it for a summer with super dry barkless white elm that dried outside for a summer. Didn't see or notice any ill effects. I also blocked off the pipe coming into the house at the cleanout T. That kept the chimney stink at bay and the birds out. And probably also kept the humidity from reaching the stove.

I was in a local stove shop last week and even though it is their "off season", and they are not burning any live fires, I noticed they had most all of their stove and inserts filled with wood.

I just figured it was to look better. (and it did) But when I asked the owner about it he said that way they are all ready to go for next season.
So if THEY keep wood in theirs ALL summer, it must be OK.

I'm likely to agree. I did put a nice load in there. With the super humid southeast Summers and a flue that is not blocked off from from the outside the slowly off-gassing of moisture from a half dozen logs won't be much compared to what the stove is exposed to anyway.

I put my fall breakin fire in my stove this spring but it got cold again so I burned it I will leave some white birch most summers if I have it around. I like the candle idea too.
